motionEye saves footage to a Samba share. I have 4 cameras and each camera saves footage to its own folder. Camera 2 is special as on that camera I cooked-up server-side motion detection. motionEye is configured to save frames for every second in the pics folder. It compares consecutive pictures, applying a mask as well, and if motion surpasses a specified threshold then it copies the frame with motion to the motionpics folder. Then, I can just iterate through pictures from that folder to quickly and easily review motion events, going to the video footage if need be. Way better than a 2 camera setup or using PIR sensors!
